DESIGN-BUILD CARPENTRY IN COLORADO

One Shop. Every Step. From Drawing to Installation.

The standard construction process creates friction at every handoff. A designer hands plans to a contractor who misreads them. A contractor bids a job and subcontracts the skilled work. RT Ranch eliminates those failure points entirely. All designer drawings and drafting are handled in-house, and the same craftsman who drew the plans installs the finished product. This design-build model is what separates RT Ranch from both generalist handymen and large cabinetry corporations. The result is a tighter timeline, a more accurate finished product, and a single point of accountability from the first conversation to the final trim piece.

The Craftsman Behind the Work

Rich Braunthal: Designer, Carpenter, and Owner-Operator

Rich started working in professional designer offices at age 16. Over the next four decades, he built deep expertise across two disciplines that rarely exist in the same person: carpentry design and hands-on carpentry. His bilingual fluency in English and Spanish has proven to be a practical advantage across the construction supply chain in Colorado. After a period away from the trade, Rich returned to his core craft and founded RT Ranch Woodworking, bringing that multi-decade background back to the residential clients who need it most. The shop is based on a ranch property below Mt. Herman in Monument, and the aesthetic reflects that setting: Colorado-sourced materials, Western character, and work that is built to last.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About RT Ranch Woodworking

  • Do you take on small projects or repairs, or is there a minimum project size?

There is no minimum project size at RT Ranch Woodworking. Small repairs and single cabinet door replacements are just as welcome as full kitchen or bathroom builds. This is a deliberate policy. Many long-term client relationships at RT Ranch started with a small job that gave the homeowner a chance to see the quality of the work firsthand before committing to a larger renovation. If you have a project that other shops have turned away because it is too small, that is exactly the kind of job RT Ranch is set up to handle.
  • What does 'design-build' mean, and how is it different from hiring a regular contractor?

A traditional renovation process involves two separate parties: a designer or architect who creates the plans, and a contractor who builds from them. That handoff creates friction, miscommunication, and cost overruns when the builder cannot fully execute the designer's intent. At RT Ranch, both roles belong to the same person. Rich Braunthal is an architect by education who also does the hands-on carpentry and installation. All architectural drawings are produced in-house, and the same craftsman who drew the plans installs the finished product. This means the design intent is preserved from the first sketch to the final trim piece.
  • What types of interior woodwork does RT Ranch specialize in?

RT Ranch focuses exclusively on interior woodwork. The core services are custom cabinetry, kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, and custom wood art using CNC engraving and laser burning. Within cabinetry, the shop designs and manufactures kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, built-in units, and custom cabinet doors. The shop also handles complete kitchen and bathroom builds for larger renovation projects. RT Ranch does not take on exterior work, framing, painting, or plumbing. That strict focus on interior woodwork is what keeps the craftsmanship at a specialist level.
  • What is Colorado Blue Stain Beetle Kill Pine, and why does RT Ranch use it?

Colorado Blue Stain Beetle Kill Pine is a locally sourced wood that gets its distinctive blue-gray grain pattern from a natural beetle infestation process. The result is a material with a visual character that no manufactured or imported lumber can replicate. RT Ranch uses it as a primary material because it aligns with the Western aesthetic preferred by many homeowners in the Monument and El Paso County region, and because it reflects a commitment to using what Colorado produces. It is a material that carries the story of the place it came from, which fits the ranch-built identity of the shop.
  • How far does RT Ranch travel for projects outside of Monument?

RT Ranch is based in Monument, Colorado, and primarily serves El Paso County. The shop also actively serves Douglas County, the Denver area, and surrounding Colorado mountain communities. Rich describes the company's approach as "go where the work is," allowing geographic reach to remain flexible based on the scope and nature of each project.
  • Can I order personalized wood art items like cutting boards or whiskey sets, and how quickly do they ship?

Yes. RT Ranch offers a range of handcrafted wood art items through its Etsy store, including personalized cutting boards, charcuterie boards, coaster sets, whiskey sets, custom photo frames, and Halloween lanterns with LED candles. Each item can be engraved with a name, logo, or initials using CNC engraving and laser burning. These items are a popular choice for weddings, housewarmings, and branded gifts. Custom wood art orders typically dispatch within 3 to 5 business days.
  • What kinds of projects has RT Ranch worked on previously?

Rich Braunthal's professional background includes architectural work and interior trim installations across luxury markets in California, Hawaii, and Aspen. He installed all interior trim packages for Tri-Pointe Homes model residences, which represents a high standard of precision and finish quality typically associated with much larger firms. RT Ranch is currently focused entirely on residential projects for homeowners across El Paso County, Douglas County, and the Denver area. The shop also takes on smaller jobs with no minimum requirement.
